New £38m railway station at the waterfront in Dundee has now opened. The building takes it's place as one of the major new landmarks in the city's regeneration.

Opposite the new V&A museum the station aims to give a powerful positive first impression of Dundee.

Blueprint were involved in the design of the cladding and the feature eyebrow to the main entrance.

Our works included;

  • Terracotta tiles
  • Terracotta Baguettes
  • Anodised rainscreen planks
  • PPC aluminium fascias and soffits
  • PPC aluminium column casings
  • PPC aluminium feature eyebrow flashings

The Feature eyebrow was a challenge for which we utilised 3D software in order to design and set out.

Our steelwork department used the Tekla model provided to produce sections to enable us to build directly onto the steel framing, as the concourse arched in two directions it was impossible to get a true elevation in 2D CAD.

Developing the concourse in 3D helped us communicate with the Architect on the project to fine tune to their preferences, we arranged regular web seminars which enabled us to show the model in its 3D state and move around the model for all parties to see and interrogate.

Once the model was accepted by the design team, we could then take off the parts modelled in 3D and turn these directly into useable schedules for manufacture:
